3.1 Suitability of detectors in relation to the area of installation
If the detector is installed in a hazardous area, the user has to verify that the equipment is
suitable for the classified area and for the flammable substances present in the plant.
The essential safety requirements against the risk of explosion in classified areas are establi-
shed by European directives 2014/34/EU of 26 February 2014 (regarding equipment) and
1999/92/EC of 16 December 1999 (regarding industrial plants).
The criteria for the classification of hazardous areas are given by the standard EN 60079-10-1
for gases and EN 60079-10-2 for dusts. The technical requirements of electrical systems in
classified areas are given by the EN 60079-14 standard.
Based on these technical and legislative provisions, the choice of the type of detector must
take into account the following factors:
³
Type of plant: mine or underground (group I)
³
Gas group: I
3.2 General precautions
During the mounting and installation phase, be sure all safety precautions have been consi-
dered. Always remember the importance of the correct positioning of gas detectors for the
optimal functioning of the detector.
It is recommended to:
³
Never to install gas detectors close to air intakes or fans causing strong air currents.
³
Attach the detectors to a firm base to prevent vibration that can damage them, pro-
ducing unreliable results. Although the electronics comply with the electromagnetic
compatibility rules, it is advised to keep the detectors at a distance from any radio
frequency senders (such as radio links or similar).
³
Place the detectors in a convenient location for future maintenance and calibration
requirements
³
Install the detector in easily accessible areas for future testing and calibration opera-
tions, allowing space for inserting the calibration kit adapter.
3.3 Environmental conditions
The detector can be used in the ambient temperature range indicated on the label. It is su-
itable for installations in mines or underground. See working conditions in paragraph 1.3.
