survey line is collected. In this case, it is OK to ignore the message and continue with data
acquisition. The low battery indicator in number 2 above can still be used.
12.2.4 Testing Transmitter & Receiver Batteries
If you are experiencing reduced operation time with either your pulseEKKO Receiver or
Transmitter, the problem may be the result of a damaged 12 V battery or a poor battery
connection in one of the battery compartments.
All battery compartments should be checked periodically for proper operation. Take a known
good pair of batteries and install them into the battery compartments (
2.1.3). Ensure the
power light activates with no intermittent operation. If the power light will not activate, look in the
battery compartment and check the battery contact for signs of excessive stress. Also check the
condition of the 2A fuse wiring. Contact Sensors & Software Inc. should all the above fail to
resolve the problem.
12.3 Communication Errors
If the battery is OK and the DVL turns on but the GPR sensor does not scan, there may be a
communication failure between the DVL and the transducers/antennas. Power off the system
and disconnect the battery.
Make sure cables are not visibly damaged. Check that all pins are straight, and there is no dirt
or debris in the connector. Ensure that the cable connections are tightly secured. Sometimes
vibrations cause the cable connections to slightly loosen and break contact leading to errors.
Disconnecting the cable and reconnecting it may provide a better contact and solve the
problem. Plug in the battery, turn on the system and try scanning again.
12.4 Receiver Related Errors
If a receiver error is encountered, check that the receiver is turned on, that the batteries for the
receiver are properly charged and that the receiver fibre optic cable is not damaged and is
properly connected.
Perform the following checks:
1. Check that the red POWER light on the top of the receiver is ON. If not, then press the
ON/OFF switch once to see if the light comes ON. If it does, restart the DVL and retry
the system to see if it will run. If the red POWER light still does not light up or flashes,
check to make sure the batteries are fully charged.
2. Check the condition of the fibre optic cables. Look for any sign of stress or damage. If
possible, replace the fibre optic cable.
