As a shipper of radioactive material, you must perform a pre-shipment inspection to verify conformance to the Type A
certification for each individual shipment of radioactive material. This verification assures the package's integrity is not
compromised, which may cause a reduction of safety while in the transport system.
Visually inspect the transport package:
•
Assure the source assembly in the Model 989 exposure device is properly shielded and secured in the locked
position. The selector ring must be in the LOCK position, the protective cover in place, the plunger lock engaged
and the key removed.

Visually inspect the exposure device housing for signs of damage. Ensure visible welds are intact and the device
housing has no significant damage (i.e. no inward dents, perforations of the steel housing, or illegible engravings of
the warning).

Inspect the reusable storage transport case to verify all interior inserts used for blocking and bracing of the device
are present and intact. Inspect the exterior of the case for cracks, perforations, broken hinges and securing latches.

Ensure the Type A label is securely attached and the information is clearly legible. Contact QSA Global, Inc. or one
of its’ authorized service centers if any repair or replacement components are needed for any missing or significantly
worn components on the Model 989 exposure device and/or the Model 98229 reusable transport case.
•
Ensure the transport case closes fully after insertion of the Model 989 and the approved fixture kit components (if
applicable). Ensure that the padlock can be attached and locked to serve as a tamper indicator for the package.
If the package fails to meet any of the inspections described, remove the package from use until it can be brought into
compliance with the Type A package certification. Contact QSA Global, Inc. or one of its’ authorized service centers if
any repair or replacement components are needed.
