Whilst a disc is playing, press the

On some discs, the fast scan function is disabled.

On DVD-Video discs, sound and subtitles are not played back during the
fast scan playback. (Only at fast forward 1 speed sound can be heard.)

With a DVD-Video disc, you can search within one title only.
