Using Optical Character Recognition
Converting Image Files to Text
You can convert any text portion of the currently displayed image
file to editable text. The text can be saved as a file in various sup-
ported formats or saved to the Windows Clipboard so it can be
pasted into other Windows applications. You may choose to have the
results of the OCR operation open automatically within your selected
application. In addition, you can automatically compensate for the
orientation of the page and specify what character should be used to
flag uncertain words or characters.
To perform an OCR operation, select OCR to File or OCR to
Clipboard from the Tools menu. To establish the OCR settings,
select Properties from the View menu and select the OCR tab.
Reviewing the results of the OCR operation
Prior to performing an OCR operation, you should select the Review
Results option so that the results your OCR operation will open
within the selected application. If the Review Results option is
selected, the results will be displayed from within the application
selected in the OCR Copy To File dialog box. If OCR to Clip-
board is selected, the results will be displayed in the Clipboard
Viewer.
To automatically review the results your OCR operation:
From the View menu, select Properties.
Click on the OCR tab.
Select the Review Results option to have the results of your
OCR operation automatically open within your selected applica-
tion. If the Review Results option is not selected, the results will
be automatically copied to the specified destination without
launching the selected application.
