Terms and abbreviations
3D image
A point cloud where the object shape is represented by three
coordinates or a rectified image where x and y coordinates are
given by the image pixel locations and the image value gives the z
coordinate.
block
In the GigE Vision transport protocol, a frame (image) is named
block.
buffer
Each frame will be received in the PC as one buffer.
depth map
An image where the values represent height or depth and not
intensity. Same thing as height map.
FPGA
Field Programmable Gate Array
frame
In Areascan mode: One 2D image.
In Linescan3D mode: A set of 3D profiles and optionally additional
data e.g. reflectance. Each line in the frame is created from one
2D image.
frame rate
The rate at which the frames are captured (Hz) in Areascan mode.
GUI
Graphical User Interface
height map
An image where the values represent height or depth and not
intensity. Same thing as depth map.
intensity
The intensity value of the pixels in a 2D sensor image.
line
Contains one value for each measured point along a cross-section
of the object of each aquired type. Same thing as profile.
line rate
The rate at which the profiles in an image are captured (Hz).
MTTF
Mean Time To Failure
NIC
Network Interface Card
PELV
Protective Extra Low Voltage
profile
Contains one value for each measured point along a cross-section
of the objectof each acquired type. Same thing as line.
profile rate
The rate at which the profiles in an image are captured (Hz).
reflectance
The reflected peak intensity of the laser line when measuring 3D
profiles.
ROI
Region Of Interest, the selected range, area or volume of meas‐
ured data.
scan (verb)
To collect measurements made by the 3D camera at one point in
time. That is the same thing as capturing one single profile.
scatter
The intensity of the laser signal in defined parts of the WAM size.
SELV
Safety Extra Low Voltage
SoC
System on Chip
WAM
Window Around Maximum. A pixel region centered around a global
or local peak used for high precision peak finding and laser scat‐
ter measurement.
