Calibration gases
12.3.1
Zero gas
Zero gas is the calibration gas for zeropoint calibration. It is not supposed to have a
measurement effect, it should therefore normally not contain any hydrocarbons (setpoint
value: “0”) – or only such small quantities that these are negligible.
The EuroFID automatically uses the instrument air as zero gas (
). It is
therefore not necessary to provide separate zero gas.
12.3.2
Span gas
Composition
The span gas is the calibration gas for calibrating sensitivity – normally a mixture of zero
gas and a precise, known concentration of a gaseous hydrocarbon. The hydrocarbon in the
span gas should correspond to the sample gas or be representative of the composition of
the sample gas.
Setpoint value
Recommendation:
Use an span gas with a setpoint value of around 80 % of the end value
of the measuring range which is used during operation.
The setpoint value of the span gas is normally identical with the concentration of the
hydrocarbon in the span gas. In some cases, however, a conversion factor is necessary to
take the concentration of the sample gas into consideration correctly. Such a conversion
factor can be selected in the EuroFID (
The programmable conversion factors also enable you to perform sensitivity
calibration with an easily available substance (e.g. propane) in the unit “ppm”,
even if measurement is based on a different substance and another physical
unit (
Check whether special instructions for a suitable span gas are provided
with the EuroFID.
If you test the sensitivity with various span gases:
Take the purity and
production accuracy (tolerance) of the calibration gases into account.
