Installation of several LMS511 units on a gantry
When monitoring several lanes, the individual 2D LiDAR sensors must be mounted at the
same position on the Z-axis. A maximum of four LMS Width units can be connected to the
Traffic Controller in one system.
If there are several 2D LiDAR sensors, double detection is in principle possible in the area
in which the measurement levels of the 2D LiDAR sensors overlap.
That is why the LMS Width must be not mounted in parallel, but rather turned to one
another as shown in the following figure.

gantry)
Mounting position on the side high on a post/mast
The side mounting of the LMS Width on a post or mast is done at a 90° angle to the
lane
surface
.
When mounted at the side, the TIC501 system function achieves the highest counting and
classification accuracy if a mounting position is selected about 5 to 8 m above the lane.
Posts or masts must enable low-vibration mounting of the 2D LiDAR sensors.

•
At a
low
mounting height, vehicles which are shaded by a vehicle moving in parallel are
not detected.
•
A low mounting position also does not provide sufficient protection from vandalism and
manipulation.
