Components of the TIC502 system function
The TIC502 system function is designed analog to the TIC102 for use in multi-lane, free-
flowing and stop-and-go traffic for toll stations and for performing traffic management.
It classifies vehicles from different category systems and also detects vehicles when they
switch lanes.
The TIC502 monitors exactly one lane. Up to four TIC502 units can run on the Traffic
Controller. Up to four lanes can be detected in this way.
System components
The TIC502 system functions consist of the
LMS Width
and
LMS Length
system
components. These system components use LMS511 type 2D LiDAR sensors. The 2D
LiDAR sensors are pre-assembled on a metal plate and also aligned at a 25° angle to
one another.

The
LMS Width
aligned with the side of the lane records the vehicle's profile in individual
2D profile sections. The LMS Width also detects vehicles when they change lanes.
The
LMS Length
(which is aligned along the lane) is responsible for vehicle tracking,
measures changes in vehicle speed, and provides the time axis to which the individual
2D cross-sections are assigned.
Compared to the TIC102, the TIC502 provides
higher detection accuracy
due to the
LMS511 type 2D LiDAR sensors used. A TIC502 is also more reliable for use in harsh
operating environments.
