Use the shortest possible lengths of cable for the external antennas to prevent greater
attenuation of the UHF output power of the device through the connecting cables.
1
Connect every antenna to one of the external antenna connections using its own
cable with a suitable length. When doing so, note the respective attenuation val‐
ues of the cables.
2
Optimize the external antenna connection used on the device. To do so, using the
SOPAS ET configuration software, enter the following data in the respective
External
antenna X
tab per antenna connection:
°
The attenuation value of the connecting cable under
cable loss
°
The gain of the antenna used identified according to the specifications under
antenna gain
3
Other information as needed.
4
Activate the external antenna connections used in the respective tabs.
NOTE
Open antenna connection
If the external antenna connection is activated, undefined completion results in a mis‐
match. The device registers this irregularity in its fault memory.
The “RF” display turns red.
Possible reasons for this:
•
Antenna not connected
•
Connecting cable not correctly connected or defective
•
Antenna is defective

Note on the reverse voltage protection for the supply voltage of the device
NOTICE
Risk of damage to the device due to possible short-circuit!
Reversing the polarity of the supply voltage may, under certain circumstances, damage
the device due to short circuit currents!
The supply voltage input terminal of the RFID device has been designed to provide
reverse polarity protection by means of an internal circuit protection (blocking diode) on
the positive pole (see figure).
The internal ground corresponds to the negative pole of the supply voltage for the
device. It has a direct galvanic connection to the metal housing of the device for RF-
related technical reasons.
Depending on the mounting location of the RFID device and the reference potential of
the supply voltage, a reversal of the polarity of the applied supply voltage can lead to
the following two situations:
