Functional Units and Methods of Operation
Functional Units
The signal converters in the housing are hardwired, tested functional units. The snap-on fastener fits a 35-mm
DIN rail as per DIN EN 50022.
You can connect the auxiliary power supply, the alarm relay, the binary input, and the sync output to the
terminals. The electrical outputs of both channels are available at one joint 9-pole D-sub socket. The optical
inputs are implemented as ST connectors.
The devices contain no silicone, are halogen-free and flame-resistant.

Method of Operation
The Sync Transceiver converts the optical input signals connected to R1 and R2 in a 2-channel way into elect-
rical signals. The electrical signals are generated by the semiconductor switching outputs. The 2nd channel
also has a binary input that operates in parallel with the optical input R2. The 2nd channel can, if needed, acti-
vate a separate electronic load disconnecting relay

with the help of the DIP switch S1/4. You can set the light-
idle state mode (OFF or ON) of the 2 optical inputs separately using the DIP switches S1/1 and S1/2.
Both of the semiconductor switching outputs are available on X1 in a 2-pole way. Depending on the applica-
tion, you can connect either one or both outputs to the SIPROTEC protection devices by way of suitable cables.
A fixed reference voltage of 24 V is applied to one pole of each output. This voltage is generated internally.
Depending on the signal level on the associated input of the Sync Transceiver, the opposite pole is either open
or carries an internal 0 V potential (closed).

The electronic load disconnecting relay is not suitable for high-precision synchronization of protection devices because of the slow
switching time in comparison to semiconductor switching outputs. A typical use case is supplying older generations of protection
devices (for example, SIPROTEC 3) with appropriate synchronization signals received via binary inputs
