Electrostatic charging can be generated by:
People and their clothing (e.g. clothes with a high content of synthetic
fibres)
Packaging materials
Workstation fittings
Floor coverings (e.g. when they are made of synthetic fibres or needled
felt)
Processing machines and tools
Low humidity level
The most effective way of avoiding damages is to prevent any charges and
to eliminate any charges that may exist without danger to the electrostatic
sensitive devices.
The following sequence should be observed when replacing such
assemblies:
)
Arrange a mobile protected area as a work space and insert the earthing
cable into the earthing socket in the frame. The sockets on the machine
frames are marked.
Identification of the earthing socket
)
If a conductive service case is being used, it also has to be connected to
the earthing connection.
)
Put on the wrist strap and connect it to the earthing clamp.
)
Unpack the electronic assembly. Only touch the handles provided for
this purpose; do not touch the connections.
)
Accomplish the required tasks.
)
Pack the removed assembly properly (use the packaging of the new
assembly) and mark it correctly.
)
Always transport and store these assemblies in the ESD packagings
provided for this purpose!
