•
Master/Slave zone:
Is used when the room controller is switched as master/slave.
See geographic zone for design. Typically, the apartment and room varies, while
the subzone remains on 1.
•
Heat distribution zone:
This zone typically includes the area, where the same hot water pipe for heating
is located.
Area
1 … 31
•
Cold distribution zone:
This zone typically includes the area, where the same chilled water pipe for
cooling is located.
Area
1 … 31
•
Outside air temperature zone:
This zone is typically oriented by wind direction (impact of sun and wind) or
height (e.g. share from another building).
Area
1 … 31
The individual zones can be switched off (no communication) to reduce bus load.
4.5.7
Area and line couple, IP router
Complex, large networks require area and line couplers based on the following two
main reasons:
•
KNX network comprises more than 45 bus devices (see Section 4.5).
•
Permissible network size exceeded without couplers.
A network with area and line couplers allows for establishing "communication
islands" aimed at keeping as low as possible any cross-area or cross-line data
traffic. The couplers connect the communications island based on the network view
(OSI reference model, layer 3, function "Router").
We recommend the Siemens area/line coupler, ordering:
•
5WG1 140-1AB13, short description N140/13
Bus connection to main line and line via terminals
Additional information is available in the product and function description (including
with each device) or at:
For large plants with Synco, use Siemens area/line couplers as of version R2
(stamped R2), since only these couplers contain the LTE filter worksheet (see
Section 4.5.8.2).
IP
1)
routers are required when you need to connect a KNX network to an IP
network.
The IP router in terms of device features is not identical to area/line couplers.
Rather than coupling within KNX, a coupling "KNX - IP network" is created. Here,
an IP router connects a KNX area or KNX line to an IP network.
1)
IP = Internet protocol: Network protocol for data traffic, routing and
internetworking for global addressing.
