Figure 4: ERTEC 200P Step2 block diagram
2.2 General Function Description (Motivation)
The Ethernet-based communication system for Industry Sector automation is PROFINET.
The first ASICs, ERTEC400 (IOC, IOD, PN switch) and ERTEC 200 (IOD only), and the
next generation of ERTEC 200, ERTEC 200P Step1 were developed for PROFINET
implementation in products in practice. These blocks are also distributed to external cus-
tomers to establish PROFINET.
As with PROFIBUS, experience with previous ASICs and requirements for future devices
indicate that further development of the basic technology – the PROFINET ASICs – is
needed.
The main requirements governing development of ERTEC 200
ERTEC 200P Step1
were:
- USABILITY
- PERFORMANCE
ERTEC 200P Step1 -> ERTEC 200P-2 redesign implements the following key aspects:
1. System redundancy Rapid backup Primary switching (no waiting time to ensure
data status consistency)
2. gPTP support
3. Reduction in power dissipation
Alongside these modifications, functional restrictions found in the course of ASIC valida-
tion for ERTEC 200P Step1, errors, performance improvements, optimization and more
efficient adjustment to I/O technology features have all been considered.
