Memory concept
The HMI devices use the following memory types:
●
Internal memory
●
Data memory card for user data and logs
●
System memory card for "automatic backup"
●
USB port for a USB storage medium with data
Note
Use the memory card for logs
Due to the high number of read/write cycles, we recommend that you use the memory card
rather than the USB interface for logs.
Internal memory
The following data is saved in the internal memory:
●
Operating system
●
Project file
●
User administration
●
Parameter sets
●
Other data, such as documents or media files
Note
Cyclic write access to the internal memory is not permitted
Cyclic write access to internal memory is not permitted, because it reduces the service life of
the internal memory and thus of the HMI device, for example, a configuration in which
permanent system alarms or user-defined messages are generated in the alarm buffer.
Configure an alarm window, check the number and frequency of the alarms that occur. If you
expect a permanent load on the internal memory from alarms, adjust the configuration
accordingly.
If the alarms do not have to be stored permanently, you can disable the retentivity of the
alarm buffer, see section "Alarm buffer (Page 86)".
To prolong the service life of your HMI device, you should preferably use external memory
cards, e.g. the SIMATIC SD Memory Card
≥
32 GB, to store and log data.
In addition, you can activate the monitoring of the internal flash memory, see section
"Performance (Page 84)".
