Downloading the NK8237
Configuration download
The configuration download allows the Composer tool to transfer all the connec-
tivity and Modbus settings into the NK8237 for runtime use.
Once the NK8237 unit is connected over the IP network, this operation can be
quickly performed from Composer using a right click command of the NK8237
node.
Firmware download
A firmware download may also be necessary when a new firmware version needs
to be installed. Unlike the configuration download, the firmware download requires
a software communication infrastructure between the Composer tool and the
NK8237. This is realized base on the standard DMS8000 NS8011 BACnet driver,
which has to be added to the Composer project along with the associated
DMS8000 station and channel folders. Once this is in place, the NK8237 download
can be performed applying the usual techniques of the NK8000 family (see 7.8.2.2
at p.51).
Standard FTP or secure download
Depending on a configuration setting (p.37), the download can be based on a
standard FTP file transfer or secured by a dedicated protocol to ensure data pri-
vacy.
To enable the secure download, select the related option in the
Node
tab of the
NK8237 node. If enabled, the secure download makes use of the TCP port 20,500
instead of the ports 20 and 21 required by FTP.

NK83237 configuration download
The NK8237 configuration download procedure includes:
Verifying connection to NK8237 unit.
Downloading the configuration file.
Verifying connection to NK82xx unit(s)
The NK8237 download requires that the TCP/IP connection between the engineer-
ing PC and the NK82xx is working properly. You can easily check this connection
using the
Ping
command; proceed as follows:
1.
Run the Command Prompt.
From the Start menu:
Start
Programs
Accessories
Command Prompt
.
A black window appears.
2.
Type:
ping n.n.n.n
<enter>,
with
n.n.n.n
being the 4-number IP address of the NK8237 unit.
3.
Analyse the reply message.
If the IP connection is good, the message text looks like:
Reply from n.n.n.n: bytes=… time … TTL=”
If the IP connection is not working for any reason, different messages may ap-
pear (Request timed out, Destination net unreachable, etc.). In these cases,
verify the network settings and cabling and try again.
