Configuring Scan Duration

Section 5.7
Configuring Scan Duration
The scan duration setting can be used to change the duration a specific device requests from the serving base
station, making the scanning more accurate. Increasing the scan duration enables quicker discovery of more than
two base stations during the scanning period. Configuring the scan duration can be useful in a multi-neighbor
setup if handover fails too often. By default, the scan duration is set to 10 milliseconds.
To configure the scan duration, do the following:
1. Navigate to
WiMAX » Mobility » Settings
. The
Settings
screen appears.

2. In the
Scan Duration [Fr]
parameter, type a value in the range of 3 to 255 for the scan duration. The default
value is 10 milliseconds.
NOTE
Values less than 10 are for debugging purposes only.
3. Click
Apply
.
Section 5.8
Configuring Failover BS Support
Failover BS Support allows an SS connected to multiple base stations to quickly connect to another base station
when it senses the serving base station has stopped transmitting. Without Failover BS Support enabled, the SS
will automatically disconnect from the serving base station and start scanning through its scanning table for
an alternate base station. This consumes valuable time, during which the SS is off-line. Enabling Failover BS
Support allows the SS to scan the Neighbor BS table (at user-defined intervals) from the serving base station for
neighboring base stations. When the serving base station stops transmitting, the SS will automatically connect to
one of the operational base stations in the list, rather than scan its own scanning table.
NOTE
Subscriber stations can also be moved to a neighboring base station manually via the user interface
for the current base station. For more information, refer to the RUGGEDCOM WIN v5.0 User Guide for
base stations.
To enable and configure Failover BS Support, do the following:
1. Navigate to
WiMAX » Mobility » Failover BS Support
. The
Failover BS Support
screen appears.
