PROFINET devices suitable for the redundant system
The table below shows the maximum number of PROFINET devices in the redundant
system. The maximum number includes switches, S7-1500R/H CPUs, S7-1500 CPUs (V2.5
or later) and HMI devices. It does not include media converters.

Recommendation: The number of devices in the PROFINET ring affects the availability of the S7-
1500R system. You should therefore operate no more than 16 PROFINET devices (including R-
CPUs) in the PROFINET ring. If you operate significantly more devices in the PROFINET ring, the
availability of the IO devices and R-CPUs is reduced.
The technical specifications in the documentation are based on the recommended maximum of 16
PROFINET devices in the ring in S7-1500R.
