7.2 Examples for communication via Ethernet
7.2.1 Example 1: Internet connection topology
You want to connect the central communication unit OZW775, hereafter referred to as
"web server OZW775", to the Internet via DSL router and DNS server.
The web server OZW775 has a DSL Internet connection via Ethernet and DSL router
with integrated DSL modem.
The DSL router has several functions. It connects the Ethernet network (LAN) and the
internal network devices to the Internet. The router then requests the IP addresses for
the internal network devices from the DNS server. Port forwarding (NAT, PAT) is also
configured in the router. In addition, service "DynDNS" to automatically update
DynDNS server changes is activated in the router.
The DNS server assigns IP addresses to domain names. The DNS server must
manage this data for each LAN with Internet access. Service "DynDNS" is required for
dynamic IP addressing. "DynDNS" registers the dynamic IP addresses and links them
to the domain names.
Note: Web server OZW775 (central communication unit) uses a static IP address to
connect to the LAN.
An e-mail account to send e-mails is requested from the ISP. Web server OZW775
does not support SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol
Secure), i.e. e-mails cannot be sent secured and encrypted.
