2.2.5 Direct connection of PC/laptop via USB
Connect a PC/laptop (on site) directly to the USB port labeled "PC" to commission and
parameterized the central communication unit. An A-B USB cable is required for con-
nection.
The connecting cable between PC/laptop and central communication unit can be
plugged in during operation (hot-plug).
Caution: "Safely remove hardware" (on Windows 2000, Windows XP SP1).
Do not remove the connecting cable without first cutting the connection via icon "Hard-
ware can be safely removed" (toolbar symbol on PC/laptop; this is not a hot-unplug
connection).
If you do not fully remove the hardware, the PC/laptop may restart when you again plug
in the connecting cable.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Win XP SP2) or higher no longer provides the "Safely
remove hardware" symbol. Thus, you can unplug the connecting cable without needing
"Safely remove hardware" (connection is hot-unplug).
2.2.6 Central communication unit ready for commissioning
You can switch on AC 24 V operating voltage (AC 230 V operating voltage for RXB
room controllers) after you check the plant and device wiring as well as the USB,
modem, Ethernet and KNX bus connections.
Check the following after you switch on the operating voltage:
•
KNX bus voltage is available (see document P3127, "Decentral bus power supply" or
"Central bus power supply").
•
LED "Run" on the central communication unit is green. LEDs "Local" and "System"
(red) are off = no fault.
•
Synco devices on the KNX network are addressed (device address not 255) or must
be addressed now prior to commissioning (see document P3127).
•
The devices on the KNX network work smoothly, i.e. no red LEDs are on.
•
The clock time master on the KNX network is defined.
