TIASTAR Features
Control Units
All control units are designed to fit into modular compart-
ments. Minimum unit size is 6” with increases in 6” incre-
ments (12”,18”,24”,30”,up to 72”).
All plug-in control units and feeder tap units of the same size
are interchangeable and can be relocated elsewhere in the
motor control center. Unit compartment heights may be
modified in the field to accept different size units.
Plug-in control units are standard through Size 5 FVNR.
Control units through Size 2 can be removed or interchanged
without disconnecting any wires if Pull Apart Control and
Power Terminal Blocks are specified.
a. Two-piece optional pull-apart control and power
terminal blocks provide wiring disconnect.
b. The pilot device panel mounts on door or unit without
rewiring.
c. Unit power connection is made through plated
copper stabs on units.
High Density Units
High density 6” plug-in units are industrial rated combination
size starters. They feature:
a. Coil removal cover
b. Terminal block swing plate
d. Easy contactor removal
e. Hinged construction for easy access
Control units offer the added convenience of a racking lever for
racking the unit into and out of the engaged position. A sup-
plementary handle on the front of the unit aids in installation.
Plug-in Unit Construction
Tin plated copper power stabs are standard on all plug-in
units. The power stabs engage the vertical power distribution
bus when the units are installed in the structure. They are
enclosed in a two-piece, glass-filled polyester, molded stab
housing. Wires from the self aligning stabs to the unit dis-
connecting device are crimp connected at the stab. The stab
housing provides a separate and isolated path for each phase
of the stab wiring. No wires are exposed to the rear of the
unit. All stabs have spring steel back-up springs to insure
proper clamping force. Contact pressure increases under
short circuit conditions. Stabs are rated 60A for Size 0
through 2 starters, and 250A for sizes 3 through 5. Feeder
and main disconnecting units utilize 60A and 250A stabs as
required for the current rating of the individual disconnecting
device.
Stabs
A copper ground stab used with vertical ground bus can be
supplied, providing a positive ground on the unit. The ground
stab engages the vertical ground bus before the power stabs
are engaged and remains engaged until after they disengage,
providing maximum protection against qualified personnel
touching hazardous voltages. All plug-in units are positively
grounded.
