Type Plates for Explosive Atmospheres
3 Type Plates for Explosive Atmospheres
SolarTemp
SolarTemp with transmitter
The devices for use in explosive atmospheres are authorized for the use in zone 1 / zone 21
according to Directive 94/9/EC.
IMPORTANT!
Always observe the maximum surface / housing temperature on the explosive atmos-
phere type plates. This temperature varies for the individual instruments.
4 Installation and commissioning of SolarTemp
ª
Select the installation location in accordance with the technical data.
When measuring high media temperatures it is possible that the ambient temperature at
the thermometer housing will exceed the permissible maximum value (+60 °C). This may
damage the measuring instrument. We recommend the use of our SolarTemp with re-
mote cable when measuring media temperatures greater than 200 °C.
ª
The SolarTemp functions irrespective of its installation position. Install the thermometer
with a minimum sensor immersion depth of 20 mm in the medium to be measured.
ª
The LCD segment has been optimised to a so-called 6 o’clock viewing angle. The best
display contrast is achieved if the viewing direction is from the front and below the nor-
mal.
As soon as enough light (min. 50 Lux) is available on the solar surface of the SolarTemp the
instrument start up. After start-up, the instrument at first carries out a self-test.
The display shows at first "-188.8" and then "U x.xx" for approx. 8 s. After that the instrument
shows the actual measurement value. The operability of the temperature sensor is simulta-
neously checked. The first valid measurement value is available after approx. 6 s.
Measurement cycle:
The measurement cycle of the instrument is 3 s. The flashing symbol " " indicates correct
functioning of the instrument and availability of a new measurement value.
Reference measurement:
The instrument carries out an internal adjustment with a reference resistor after each meas-
urement. If the temperature value cannot be displayed correctly, e.g. through a short-time
lack of lighting, the instrument will work correctly after the next self-adjustment with highest
accuracy.
