Intended Use

Electric sander using punched hook and loop sanding discs for light to
medium duty sanding tasks on wood, plastic, and painted surfaces.

WARNING:

This sander must NOT be used for wet sanding.

Unpacking Your Tool

•  Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Familiarise yourself with all its

features and functions

•  Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If

any parts are missing or damaged, have such parts replaced before
attempting to use this tool

Before Use

Selecting the right grade of sanding sheet

•  Sanding sheets are available in a variety of different grades: coarse (60

grit), medium (120 grit) and fine (240 grit)

•  Use a coarse grit to sand down rough finishes, medium grit to smooth the

work, and fine grit to finish off

•  Always use good quality sanding sheets to maximise the quality of the

finished task

•  It is advisable to do a trial run on a scrap piece of material to determine

the optimum grades of sandpaper for a particular job. If there are still
marks on your work after sanding, try either going back to a coarser
grade and sanding the marks out before recommencing with the original
choice of grit, or try using a new piece of sandpaper to eliminate the
unwanted marks before going on to a finer grit and finishing the job

Fitting a sanding sheet

WARNING:

Always ensure that the tool is switched off and the plug is

removed from the power point before fitting or removing sanding sheets.

Note:

DO NOT continue to use worn, torn or heavily clogged sanding discs.

Ensure foreign objects, such as nails and screws, are removed from the
workpiece before starting to sand.

WARNING:

DO NOT use a sanding disc on wood that has previously been

used on metal. This may cause scouring on the wooden surface.
•  In order for the dust extraction system to function, this Silverline sander

must only be used with punched sanding discs with holes that match the
holes in the backing pad:
1. Remove the old sanding disc (if fitted), by peeling it away from the

Hook & Loop Backing Pad (4)

2. Remove any dust or debris from the Hook & Loop Backing Pad
3. Match the holes in a suitable Hook & Loop Sanding Disc (8) with the

holes in the Hook and Loop Backing Pad

4. Simply press the disc on to the pad to attach it

Note:

To maximise the life of the hook and loop base, peel the sanding disc

off slowly rather than rapidly removing it to avoid damage to the hook and
loop system.

WARNING:

Take care to regularly clean out the build-up of dust on the base

underneath the sanding disc and not to let the disc wear completely down
before replacing it. Failure to observe these two precautionary measures
can lead to damage to the hooks and loops on the base, and the sanding
sheet will not attach properly.

Adjusting the Front Handle

•  The Front Handle (6) can be adjusted into a position that best suits the

task and operator preference

•  To move the Front Handle, loosen the Handle Locking Clamp (5) by

turning it anticlockwise

•  The handle will now be free to pivot
•  Always retighten the Handle Locking Clamp before use, by turning it

clockwise until hand tight

Dust extraction

WARNING:

Always ensure that the tool is switched off and disconnected

from the power supply before attaching or removing any accessories.

WARNING:

Always connect the sander to a suitable vacuum cleaner or

workshop dust extraction system, especially if the sanding dust contains
harmful substances, such as particles from old paint, varnish, surface
coatings etc. Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and
regulations.

WARNING:

Take special care to guard against harmful and toxic dusts when

sanding lead-based painted surfaces, woods and metals, particularly if you
are unsure about the exact substances involved. All persons entering the
work area must wear a mask specially designed for protection against the
toxic dust and fumes involved. Children and pregnant women MUST NOT
enter the work area. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke in the work area.
•  This sander is designed to be connected to a household vacuum cleaner

hose or workshop dust extraction system. This is the preferred and most
effective method of dust extraction

•  Attach a suitable vacuum hose to the Dust Extraction Port (3)

WARNING:

Using the tool without vacuum dust extraction may expose the

operator to harmful dust, and may lead to a build-up of dust on internal
components, shortening the tool’s service life. Such damage is not covered
by warranty.
•  If vacuum dust extraction is unavailable, the Dust Bag (9) must be fitted

to the Dust Extraction Port

WARNING:

Remove and DO NOT use the Dust Bag when sanding metal.

Hot metal particles and sparks could ignite residual wood dust, or cause the
bag to catch fire. Always clean the tool THOROUGHLY when switching from
sanding wood to sanding metal, and vice versa.

WARNING:

For optimum dust removal, empty the dust bag when it is no

more than half full.

WARNING:

Always switch off and disconnect from the power supply before

detaching the dust bag.

Operation

WARNING:

Always use adequate protective equipment, including eye

protection, respiratory and hearing protection, when working with this tool.

WARNING:

DO NOT touch the moving sanding disc.

WARNING:

NEVER allow the sandpaper to wear down completely before

replacing it. Failure to observe these precautionary measures can lead to
damage to the hook and loop surfaces, resulting in sanding discs failing to
attach properly.

Note:

ALWAYS use clamps to secure your workpiece to the workbench

wherever possible.

Switching on and off

WARNING:

DO NOT switch the tool on or off whilst under load, as this will

greatly decrease the service life of the On/Off Trigger Switch (1).

1. Connect the plug to the power supply
2. Hold the tool securely with both hands by the Front Handle (6) and

main handle, and make sure that you have full control at all times

3. Ensure the tool is not in contact with the workpiece before

commencing with switching on

4. Press the On/Off Trigger Switch (1) to start the machine
