NMEA
National Marine Electronics Association. The NMEA is an organization of
manufacturers
of marine electronics equipment. They have adopted the
NMEA 0183 as a standard for communications between various types of marine
electronic equipment.
PHASED RANGE
Phased Range allows the user to set the displayed depth range to begin at some
point below the surface. For example, a 100 meter displayed range can be "phased"
downwards, so that the screen shows a 100 meter section beginning at, say, 200
meters and going to 300 meters depth.
RANGE
Range refers to the distance shown from the top to the bottom of the display
screen.
SCROLL SPEED
Scroll speed is the rate of movement of the targets on the display screen, moving
from right to left. It is adjustable, to allow the user to show a longer "history" on
the display screen, if desired.
SERIAL INTERFACE
Serial interface describes the connections used between two or more pieces of
computer equipment.
SPEED INTERFACE
The speed interface allows the user to connect the EQ 55 to a paddle wheel type of
vessel speed sensor. The vessel speed can then be displayed on the EQ 55 display
screen.
STC
Sensitivity Time Control. This decreases the sensitivity of the EQ 55 receivers in
the first
few meters of depth. This is used to reduce the "clutter" which is
often present near the surface, due to bubbles and small sea life present there.
TEMPERATURE INTERFACE
The temperature interface allows the user to connect the EQ 55 to a thermistor
(temperature variable resistor) type of sea water temperature sensor. The sea
water temperature can then be displayed on the EQ 55 display screen.
