Adjusting the TVG (Time Variable Gain) setting
You can adjust the Time Variable Gain for each sonar application in the
TVG Setup
dialog
box.
Context
The
TVG
(Time Variable Gain) function is used to compensate the received echo data for the
loss of acoustic energy due to geometric spread and absorption.
Tip
Click the
TVG
button on the top bar to enable the TVG Correction filter. This filter reduces
TVG-amplified noise at further ranges where no targets appear. You can adjust the
percentage of this filter (applied to the range) in the
Display Widget
.
Procedure
1
Select the sonar application you wish to configure from the
Sonar applications list
on the top bar.
Note
Each sonar application has its own TVG profile.

Click the
Preferences
button.
This button is located on the top bar.
Observe that the
Preferences
dialog box opens.

Click the
Show TVG Config
button.
Observe that the
TVG Setup
dialog box opens.

Drag the sliders to adjust the A, B, C, and L Factors.
Click the arrow buttons to make small adjustments.

Click
Apply
to save the settings.
Tip
Run the Sonar Head and open the
TVG Setup
dialog box if you want to see a graphical
representation of the receive signal and ensure the signal is not being clipped.
