PERFORMANCE TESTING
1. General
The tests detailed in this section must be performed after overhaul or repair.
The tests must be done in an approved magnetic testing facility.
The tests must be done in an ambient temperature range of 15 to 25
°
C.
NOTE:
The magnetic tests detailed in this section are determined with a ‘magnetic
field intensity’ of horizontal force 0.18 oersted and vertical force 0.44 oersted.
Compass performance at other locations can be different and adjustment to
the specification values must be made.

3. Procedure
WARNING:
DO NOT EXPOSE THE COMPASS TO A TEMPERATURE
MORE
THAN
+85°C.

Fluid
(1) Examine the compass fluid, with the eye at a distance of approximately
150mm, to see that it is transparent and free from sediment, cloudiness,
discolouration or contamination. There must be no sign of leakage.
(2) Invert the compass and examine for defects as detailed in paragraph (1).
