B. Stem Assembly (80)
(1) Examine the ‘sapphire bearing cup’ of the ‘Stem Assembly’ (80). The cup
must be free from cracks, flaws and surface damage. The conical section of
the cup holder must be free from burrs or contamination.
(2) Use the microscope to examine the conical surface of the cupholder for
cracks, scores and surface damage.
(3) Replace the Stem Assembly (80) if the item is considered unserviceable.
C. Compass Card Assembly (130)
(1) Examine the card carefully for shape and examine the assembly of the ring
magnet to the card assembly.
(2) Examine the pivot for wear with a microscope. The pivot tip must have a
spherical radius of 0.13mm. The pivot tip must not show signs of wear.
(3) Replace the compass card if it is damaged or if the pivot is worn.
D. Lamp Housing Assembly (230)
(1) Examine the lamp-spring is captive and not damaged.
(2) Examine the coloured glass filter to see it is captive in its holder and that it is
not damaged or cracked.
(3) Examine the value of the resistor to see that it is correct. (Ref Table 5001)
