Before you Begin
How you start with your training program depends on your physical conditions. If you have been phy-
sically inactive for several years or have severe obesity, increase your workout time on the Elliptical
trainer slowly.
In the beginning, probably, you will be able to train only for few minutes in your target area. However,
your fitness will improve in the next six to eight weeks. Do not be discouraged if it takes a bit longer. It
is extremely important to train at your own pace.
The fitter you are, the more you need to sweat to remain in your target area. Please note the following:
• Start your training program slowly and set realistic objectives.
• Check your pulse regularly. Calculate your target heart rate according to your age and condition.
Warm-Up
A warm up of approximately 5 minutes is recommended before beginning the work out. This should
increase your core muscle temperature and make your tendons and joints ready for the work out.
We recommend: light hopping, brisk walking with arm movement, on the spot running or arm and torso
circling.
Training intensity and frequency
Basically, the first requirement is to perform endurance training to be healthy and to feel healthy.
Even for a toothache or tonsillitis or signs of cold, for which an antibiotic must be possibly taken, one
should not start in any case. The pathogens reach the heart through the blood stream and cause da-
mage to the heart.
Even for endurance training, as with all the sport types, we differentiate between beginners and ad-
vanced learners.
It is recommended to exercise 2-3 times a week with one or two days rest between each session. The
recovery periods are as important as the training itself.
Consider the pulse rates on page 15 while starting the training.
Having finished your workout, you should do a slight stretching program. These exercises will reduce
your muscle rigidity and keep your muscles flexible.
