When drilling metal, it will be necessary to lubricate the tip of the drill bit with oil to prevent
overheating the drill bit.
Drill to a specific depth
Drilling a blind hole (not all the way through the workpiece) to a given depth can be done in
two ways.
Workpiece method (Fig . 26)
1. Mark the desired depth of the hole on the
side of the workpiece.
2. With the switch off, bring the drill bit down
until the tip is even with the mark.
3. Hold the feed handles at this position.
4. Rotate the depth stop nut until it meets the
depth stop ring. Then release the handle.
5. Keep the stop nut stationary, lower the depth
lock nut to lock the stop nut. The chuck
and the drill bit will now be stopped at the
distance selected on the depth scale.
Depth scale method (Fig . 27)
1. With the switch OFF, turn the feed handles
until the drill bit tip slightly touches the top of
the workpiece.
2. Hold the feed handles in that position.
3. Rotate the depth stop nut until it meets the
depth stop ring. Then release the handle.
4. Keep the stop nut stationary, lower the depth
lock nut to lock the stop nut. The chuck and
drill bit will now drill into the workpiece only
to the distance selected on the depth scale.
