4.0 WIRE ROPE
WARNING: Always wear gloves to protect hands when working with wire rope.
Steel wire rope used for hoisting personnel must be treated with extreme care. It must be properly
maintained or its useful life will be shortened.
Wire rope is an expendable item and begins to wear the moment it is put into use. A wire rope which is
left in use beyond its useful life endangers personnel and property. Therefore, wire rope must be
periodically inspected to be sure that it is in good condition. Ropes which show sign of wear or
deterioration must be replaced immediately to avoid personal injury and property damage.
Always use a wire rope of the correct diameter (8 or 9mm), construction and length.
