Technical Description
14.2.1 Boundary Conditions
In order to operate on the grid, very strict limits (for voltage and frequency) must generally be
maintained. These strict limits are not sensible for generator operation. The limits are therefore set
separately for grid operation and the generator limits are not used.
14.2.2 Starting the Sunny Island
The Sunny Island always starts in stand-alone grid operation. Once the device is operating, it checks
for the presence and validity (voltage and frequency) of the external grid.
14.2.3 Stand-Alone Grid Operation
The main power grid and stand-alone grid are disconnected and the Sunny Island powers the stand-
alone grid. This state is characterized by the system waiting for the grid to reconnect.
As long as the battery has a sufficient charge level, the loads are powered. In stand-alone operation,
the AC feed-in generators (e.g. Sunny Boy) perform a charge operation, if required.
14.2.4 Grid Reconnection
In stand-alone operation, the Sunny Island constantly checks whether the grid has been reconnected
(see above). If, for the time interval set in "232.07 GdVldTm" the main power grid's voltage is within
the permissible range between the "232.01 GdVtgMin" and "232.02 GdVtgMax" parameters and
its frequency is within the permissible range between the "232.05 GdFrqMin" and "232.06
GdFrqMax" parameters (see also section 14.2.1 ”Boundary Conditions” (page 118)), the stand-
alone grid is synchronized with the main power grid and then connected.
Default settings
The default settings for limits during grid operation comply with the following standards:
• For 230V_50Hz: DIN VDE 0126-1-1 (not entirely)
• For 220V_60Hz: UL1741
NOTICE!
For legal reasons, the Sunny Island must provide for a certified ENS when
operating in connection with the public grid.
The Sunny Island does not comply with the VDE 0126-1-1 directive requested in Germany.
Observe the following for legal reasons:
• The Sunny Island must provide for a certified ENS when operating in connection with
the public grid (e.g., from the UfE company).
