10.3 Cleaning the fridge freezer
Clean the appliance regularly. Before cleaning, remove the plug from the electric socket (or turn off the
main switch). To clean the outside of the freezer, use water and a gentle liquid detergent only, or a
detergent for general use on washable surfaces (e.g. a detergent for use on glass). Do not use abrasive
or corrosive cleaners for cleaning the door glazing (e.g. cleaning powders, stain-removers, wire
sponges). Do not use rough or abrasive materials or sharp metal scrapers to clean the glass doors since
they may scratch the surface and cause the glass to shatter. Do not use products containing abrasive or
aggressive substances for plastic or enamelled parts, or acids or chemical solvents. Use a sponge or a
soft cloth. Do not use cloths or sponges with a rough surface suitable for scouring.
Do not use steam cleaners inside the freezer; we advise you to use gentle liquid detergents intended for
washable surfaces, ideally disinfectants, provided that they do not contain solvents or aggressive
substances and/or abrasive particles.
Protect the internal surfaces and plastic parts of the appliance from fats, acids and sauces. In case of
accidental leaks, clean immediately with warm soapy water or washing up liquid.
Please note that our
Technical Support Centres
can provide
Smeg
products specifically intended for
cleaning these appliances. Do not use knives or objects that could damage the freezer circuit.
Remove the shelves, drawers and door accessories, taking care not to force them when taking them out.
Carefully follow the instructions in the section “Door ledges and containers”. Do not wash removable
plastic parts in the dishwasher, just use lukewarm water or a water and vinegar mixture. Do not allow the
electrical lighting parts to come into contact with water or detergents.
Use lukewarm water to clean the seals.
Periodically clean out the defrosting channel with detergent for this purpose.
After cleaning, dry both the internal and external parts of the fridge freezer.
To ensure that the fridge freezer functions properly,
you will also need to clean the condenser at the
back periodically, using a brush, a soft brush, an
electrostatic cloth or a vacuum cleaner (Fig. 16 pos.
1).

Periodically, at least once a year, also examine the
tray above the compressor and, if necessary, clean it.

10.4 Switching off the fridge freezer
If the fridge freezer is to remain out of use for a long time, turn the thermostat knob to
“
”
. Then
empty the units, disconnect the freezer from the electricity supply and, once it has defrosted, dry off any
residual moisture that may have accumulated. Leave the door ajar to ensure that moisture and stagnant
air do not cause unpleasant odours.
