Assembling and connecting external batteries
The UPS supports the use of standard lead-acid batteries, and also lithium-
ion batteries. If you plan to use lithium-ion batteries, consult with
Gamatronic Support to be sure that the battery setup parameter values are
appropriate for the batteries you will be using.
All battery terminal connection torque values must be in accordance with the
battery manufacturer specifications.
To assemble and connect external batteries:
A “battery string” or “battery set” is the basic number of batteries required to provide standard
backup capabilities. For the UPS, this is 60 x 12 V batteries. A battery string may be housed in one
or more battery cabinets. For extended backup time, multiple battery sets can be attached to the
UPS.
1.
Ideally, the external battery cabinet(s) should be located as close to the UPS as is
practical.
2.
Assemble the batteries within the battery cabinet.
3.
Figure 12 shows the recommended connection to the UPS for a single battery set,
which includes two fuses inside of each battery cabinet. One fuse should be placed on
the plus line and one on the minus line of every 30 batteries. The recommended fuse
values for one set made up of two cabinets of 30 x 12 Vdc each are shown in according
to the output capacity of the UPS. Figure 12 assumes that the battery fuses can be
easily disconnected when desired.
4.
Measure the dc voltage at the main terminals of the battery cabinets. Verify that you
obtain values of at least 380 Vdc for each battery cabinet, or at least 760 Vdc across the
main battery CB. The battery set must have a positive (+380 Vdc), midpoint and
negative (-380 Vdc) pole.
5.
Connect the battery set to UPS
’s positive (“+”) battery bus bar, negative (“–“) battery
bus bar, and Neutral bus bar. Refer to Figure 12.
6.
If you are using lithium-ion batteries, contact Gamatronic support for configuration
instructions.
