SkyWay Series Multi-Point Operator’s Guide
91
Duplex Mode
-Bi-directional (Full) and unidirectional (Half); Full mode has the
ability to transmit and receive at any given moment, Half mode only has the ability
to transmit or receive, not both, at any given instance.
EMI protection
(Electromagnetic Interference protection) - Shields from
interference from other devices.
Ethernet
- Popular local area network technology, which is a best-effort delivery
system that uses CSMA/CD technology.
Ethertalk
- AppleTalk protocol written to run on Ethernet.
Fast Poll List
-Substation in constant communication with the base station.
FLASH
- Non-volatile storage device similar to EEPROM, but where erasing can
only be done in blocks or the entire chip.
Forwarding Table
- Table that displays various forwarding information for a
router including: how many hops it will take for a packet to reach its destination
(cost), next hop IP address, IP mask, etc.
FPGA
(Field Programmable Gate Array) - Gate array where the logic network can
be programmed into the device after its manufacture. An FPGA consists of an
array of logic elements, either gates or lookup table RAM's, flip-flops and
programmable interconnect wiring.
FRMR
(Frame Reject Response) - Response sent from the SkyWay-Net
substation to the base if there is an inconsistency in the Iframe sequence numbers.
Front-to-Back Ratio
- Ratio which describes relationship between the front
reception to the back reception.
Guy Wire
- A wire used to support the antenna mast.
HDLC Protocol
(High-level Data Link Protocol) - Standard that is the basis of
many link-layer protocols.
ICMP
(Internet Control Message Protocol) - Protocol that is required for
implementation with IP. ICMP specifies error messages to be sent when datagrams
are discarded or systems experience congestion.
ICMP Redirect
- An ICMP message sent from a router to a host on a local
network to instruct the host to change a route.
IFRAMES
- Data frames containing sequence numbers used for error detection
and recovery.
Impedance
- Resistance against RF and Electrical energy.
Inactive Poll List
- A list of the substations no longer responding to the base unit.
IP
(Internet Protocol) - Standard protocol that defines the IP datagram as the unit
of information is passed across the Internet; provides the basis for connectionless,
best-effort packet delivery service.
ISM Band
(Industrial Science and Medical Band) - Government group which sets
asides RF frequencies for commercial products. The frequency allocations are
902-928MHz, 2.400-2.483MHz and 5.7-5.9GHz.
