RF Exposure
- Federal and ANSI regulations mandate for max permissible
human exposure limits for any intentional or unintentional radiator.
RF Frequency
- Defining property of electromagnetic energy, namely the number
of waves per second (measured in cycles per second, or Hertz).
RF Link Layer
- Physical layer of a communications system.
RFC
(Request for Comments) - Set of documents containing Internet protocols
and discussions of related topics. These documents are available online at the
Network Information Center.
RIP
(Routing Information Protocol) - Simple protocol used to exchange
information between routers.
Router
- A special purpose, dedicated computer that attaches to two or more
networks and forwards packets from one to the other.
RR
(Receive Ready) - Management frame to indicate the ready line. This
indicates that the bridge is ready to receive.
RS-232
- Standard by EIA that specifies the electrical characteristics of slow
speed interconnections between terminals and computers or between two
computers.
RS-422 - Standard by EIA that specifies the electrical characteristics of slow
speed interconnections between terminals and computers or between two
computers.
Scrambler Tap
- Technique used to scramble radio transmission. See also Tap
Value.
Selector Field
- Field in the console in which the user selects the entry from a
predefined list by using the arrow keys.
Sequence Numbers
- Numbers passed in the header of packets used for error
checking, to acknowledge the number of the packet that is being sent/received.
Skyway Agent
- SkyWay-Net portion used in an SNMP manager that responds to
the manager requests.
SL Value
- At the base station, monitor the 2.5.4 RF-DLC Signal Status screen.
Have the other person adjust the substation antenna while you monitor the link for
the largest SL value and the fewest number of Time-outs.
SNMP
(Simple Network Management Protocol) - Standard protocol used to
monitor hosts, routers and the networks to which they attach.
SNMP Manager
- Tool used to generate SNMP requests.
SNMP Trap
- Message that reports a problem or special event.
SNRM
(Set Normal Response Mode) - Command that allows a machine that has
just come back on-line to announce its presence and force all the sequence
numbers back to zero.
