Locating by current direction
The method of current direction may be used to locate target line in the areas with high concentration
of utilities. To do this:
Enable the
1024 Hz
double-frequency signal generation in the transmitter (section 3.4.2.2);
Set the receiver to the operating frequency of
1024 Hz
.
If the double-frequency signal strength is sufficient, the indication of current direction (pos. 12
will be active automatically.
If the “Compass line” feature is used, the current direction will be shown
with the utility position arrow direction (pos. 19
The Transmitter shall be connected directly to the target line for this technique. The adjacent utili-
ties shall be galvanically separated from the target line in the point of connection (see
The target utility line will carry a current conventionally termed the “output current” of the transmit-
ter (shown with
on the display). Galvanic or capacitative coupling between the target line and the
adjacent line will cause the latter to carry the “return current” to the transmitter (shown with
on the
display).

In case the adjacent utility lines are galvanically coupled with the target line, all these lines will
have the signals of equal direction (See
). Signal amplitudes of the adjacent lines may differ
depending on the search current spreading.
