Important Notes on Operation
Wait for 30 seconds after turning the
power off
For a brief interval after the power is turned off, the platters
inside the HDD will still keep spinning and the heads will
be in an insecure position. During this interval, the unit is
more susceptible to shocks and vibrations than during
normal operation. For a period of at least 30 seconds after
turning the power off, avoid subjecting the unit even to
very light shocks. After this period, the hard disk will be
fully stopped and the unit can be manipulated.
Temperature and humidity related
precautions
Use and store the unit only in locations where the specified
temperature and humidity ranges are not exceeded. Also,
do not power the unit on while its outer case is removed.
Temperature range for operation: +5 to +40 ºC (+41 ºF
to +104 ºF)
Humidity range for operation: 20% to 90% relative
humidity (no condensation)
Temperature range for storage: –20 ºC to +60 ºC
(–4 ºF to +140 ºF)
When HDD seems to be faulty
Even if the HDD is showing signs of malfunction, be sure
to observe all the above precautions. This will prevent
further damage from occurring until the problem can be
diagnosed and corrected.
HDD replacement
Contact your Sony service or sales representative about
periodic replacement of the HDD.
RFID tag handling precautions
• Do not bend or twist RFID tags.
• Do not drop RFID tags, or otherwise expose them to
extreme pressure, shock, or vibration.
• Do not use or store in or near devices that generate static
electricity.
• Do not place in areas where they may come into contact
with water or chemicals.
• When storing, place tags in the original antistatic bag,
seal the bag, and store lengthwise.
• Avoid hot, humid locations, and store in room-
temperature environment.
• Always store RFID tag rolls laying flat. Do not place tag
rolls upright or let them roll around.
• Attach RFID tags under room-temperature conditions
(Temperature: 10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F),
Humidity: 70% RH or lower).
• When attaching RFID tags, press down on the whole
RFID tag and check that the tag does not lift. Do not
apply undue pressure using fingernails or other objects
to the chip located in the center of the RFID tag.
• The distance over which tags can communicate may be
reduced, hampering communication, depending on the
usage environment. Always evaluate the effects on tags
beforehand when using tags near sources of RF noise.
• Sony assumes no responsibility for the data stored by
customers in memory on RFID tags.
