Optional Isolation Valve
Isolation Valve
If your LyoStar is configured with either a pneumatic or electrical isolation valve,
please note these important start-up instructions.
Electrical Isolation Valves
The isolation valve will automatically close at the start of the freezing cycle. It will open
automatically at the start of the vacuum phase of the program. No action is required
by the operator.
Pneumatic Isolation valves
A source of compressed air delivering 90-100 PSI must be connected to the shop air
inlet port at the rear of the LyoStar. Verify that compressed air is supplied to the unit at
the start of the run. If the last position of the isolation valve was closed and the
compressed air source has been disconnected, the isolation valve will remain closed.
This will prevent the system from successfully stepping into the drying portion of the
program.
Use with Liquid Nitrogen Trap
The auto filling liquid nitrogen trap is sold as an option. The auto filling liquid nitrogen
trap (LNT-LYOII) is connected to a LyoStar when it is important to trap high vapor
pressure solvents. Typically these solvents come off of product early in the drying
cycle. During this time, the trap can be valved so that it is on line.
The trap can be valved off line when the high vapor pressure solvents are gone. This
is indicated by a decrease in the system pressure. This will allow the most economical
use of liquid nitrogen.
Before attempting to operate the system, read and completely familiarize all personnel
with Safe Handling and Storage of Liquified Gases and the Liquid Level Controller
Manual.
The liquid level controller comes with a thermistor type level sensor that will maintain
between 1 and 4 inches of liquid nitrogen in the reservoir. There are low and high
level alarms preset at 0 and 6 inches. See the liquid level controller manual for
operating details.
