Chapter 5
Troubleshooting
This chapter summarizes problems that occasionally occur during operation and offers means of diagnosing and solving
the problem.
All tests assume that the ion source and power supply are correctly installed, as described in this manual and the ion
source manual.
5.1 Possible Problems
The tables below describe some common problems and offer solutions or references to other sources of help.
No ion current
Possible cause
Solution
Current measurement not working
properly
Check measurement setup and method.
No emission current
Adjust emission current, see "Emission" on page 16
If the problem persists, perform a filament check—see "Filament and Repeller
No high voltage
Set energy, see "Energy" on page 13
Confirm that the cover interlock switch is closed—see "Measuring Power Unit
Is the emission regulation correct—see also the low intensity checks below.
Incorrect or no anode voltage
Is the unit is Operate mode, and is the emission current normal?
Does the Energy display with HV on show the correct value?
Check the resistance of the anode pin (4) to the other feedthrough pins and to
ground.
Incorrect or no repeller voltage
Is the unit in Operate mode, and is the emission current normal?
