Maintenance by Shipboard Personnel
4-1
Chapter 4: Scheduled Maintenance
4.1 Maintenance by Shipboard Personnel
The RAC is a solid-state electronic device and contains no consumable
parts. Therefore, no set maintenance schedule to be carried out by
shipboard personnel or service personnel is required.
The housing should be kept clean and a regular visual inspection of
cables and connectors should be carried out to detect any signs of
damage or deterioration.
Should the RAC fail to attain the required calibration accuracy,
thoroughly check the cables for mechanical damage. Check the
connectors at the RAC, the rudder angle feedback unit and the RAIs for
signs of corrosion, loose contacts etc. Inspect the feedback unit and the
feedback linkage in particular for any signs of mechanical damage or
wear. In case the RAC does still fail to attain the required calibration
accuracy, maintenance by authorized service personnel is required.
4.2 Maintenance by Service Personnel
If re-calibration of the RAC is required, field service attendance must be
requested from Sperry Marine directly or through an authorized Sperry
Marine service representative.
Note
The RAC is re-calibrated using the Sperry Universal Service Instrument
(SUSI). This tool is provided to authorized service personnel only and is
generally not available to end-customers.
