A WORD ABOUT TREADMILLS

The use of a treadmill can sometimes produce static electricity. The discharge of this electricity can be annoying,

startling and uncomfortable. It usually comes in the form of an unexpected “snap” or “pop” when touching some

of  the  metal  parts  on  the  treadmill.  Sportcraft  takes  great  care  in  engineering  their  treadmills  to  eliminate  this

discharge however factors outside of our control do sometimes lead to static buildup.
Some of the common causes of static buildup and discharge involve the shoes and clothing of the user. Our testing

has shown that certain footwear may be more prone to a buildup of static electricity. Our tests also show that

certain nylon and other polyester material in garments may be more prone to a buildup of static electricity much

the same as footwear. IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING STATIC ELECTRICITY DISCHARGE WHILE USING YOUR

TREADMILL, CHANGE YOUR FOOTWEAR AND/OR YOUR OUTER GARMENTS.
If you continue to experience static electricity while using your treadmill, tests have shown that the use of Static

Guard®, a product sold in grocery and discount stores, can eliminate the discharge of static electricity. Spray the

product directly on the treadmill belt while it is moving at a slow speed. Coat the entire belt surface. Allow the

product to completely dry for at least 10 minutes or such longer time as directed by the static spray manufacturer.

Check your footing on the belt before you restart your workout. Reapply the static spray if necessary.
Please  contact  Sportcraft  Consumer  Affairs  Division  at  1-800-526-0244  or  by  e-mail  at  sportcraft@sportcraft.co

m if you have any questions, concerns or needs concerning static electricity or any other concerns with your

Sportcraft treadmill.

C. When you can lift the edge of the treadmill walking belt a small distance from the deck, one inch or so, you

will have enough space to apply the lubricant.

D. Snip the end of the “needle” top of the silicone container with a scissors or other sharp object.  Be careful

not to cut off too much of the top.  You need a very small opening to properly apply the lubricant.  There is

a cap provided to close the container after use.  Push the “needle” top of the container under the belt as

far as you can and apply the silicone directly to the deck.  The silicone should be applied in drops or in a

very thin stream.  Apply the silicone the entire length of the deck on both sides of the walking belt.  One

application per side is all that is needed.

E. Tighten the roller adjustment screws by turning them clockwise (to the right) the exact same number of

turns that you used to loosen them.  You must now make sure that the treadmill walking belt is centered.

F. Plug the treadmill in to the electrical outlet.
G. With no one on the treadmill, start it at a slow speed, less than 2.5 MPH.  Watch the belt for 30 to 60

seconds.  If it is running in the center of the deck, increase the speed to 5.0 MPH and observe if it stays

in the center of the deck.  If it stays in the center, the treadmill is ready to use.

H. If the belt is off center of moves back and forth on the deck, refer to your operating instructions for the belt

adjustment procedure.
