Inspecting Knives
The height of the knives can be inspected with
a straightedge to ensure that they are set evenly
with the outfeed table at their highest point in the
cutterhead rotation.
To inspect the knives:
1.
DISCONNECT JOINTER FROM POWER SOURCE!
2.
Remove the cutterhead guard or block it out of
the way.
3.
Using a straightedge on the outfeed table, check
the height of each knife at the positions shown
in
Figure 37
.
—The knives are set correctly when they just
touch the bottom of the straightedge in each
of the straightedge positions.
—If the knives do not touch the straightedge
or they lift it up in any of the positions, then
those knives need to be adjusted.

Tightening/Replacing
V-Belt
To tighten the V-belt:
1.
DISCONNECT JOINTER FROM POWER SOURCE!
2.
Remove the V-belt cover.
3.
Loosen the four hex nuts that secure the motor
to the motor mount. (Refer to the motor instal-
lation instructions on
Page 11
for motor mount
nut locations.)
4.
Slide the motor up and down to make sure that
it moves freely on the motor mount, then allow
the weight of the motor to slide down the motor
mount as far as it will go.
— If you are replacing the V-belt remove it now.
Note:
The weight of the motor is enough to ten-
sion the V-belt to the appropriate tension. If you
want your V-belt tighter, you can also pull down
on the motor with one hand while you tighten the
hex nuts with the other hand. Never use a lever or
other mechanical device to force the motor down
to achieve extreme tension on the V-belt. An over-
tensioned V-belt will greatly decrease the lifespan
of the motor and cutterhead bearings.
5.
Tighten the four hex nuts that secure the motor
to the motor mount.
6.
Replace the V-belt cover.
