7. MENTAL ALERTNESS.
Operating this machine
when not fully alert greatly increases the
risk of accidental injury. Never operate when
under the influence of drugs/alcohol, when
tired, or when otherwise distracted.
8. TRAINED/SUPERVISED OPERATORS ONLY.
Only allow trained and properly supervised
personnel to operate machinery. Make sure
safe operation instructions are clearly under-
stood. Keep all children and visitors a safe
distance from the work area. Use padlocks
and master switches, and remove start switch
keys to prevent accidental starting.
9. UNATTENDED MACHINE.
Machines left unat-
tended while running present multiple haz-
ards, including visitor danger, fire, and self-
inflicted damage. Always turn your machine
OFF
before leaving it.
10. OPERATING ENVIRONMENT.
Operating this
machine in a wet location may result in elec-
trocution; operating near flammable gasses
may result in a fire or explosion. Only operate
this machine in a dry location that is free of
flammable gasses.
11. CLEAN WORK AREA AND GOOD LIGHTING.
Clutter and dark shadows increase the risk of
an accident. Only operate this machine in a
clean, well-lighted work area.
12. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION.
Improperly con-
necting the machine to the power source
may result in electrocution or fire. Always
adhere to local electrical codes.
13. DISCONNECT POWER.
Adjusting machine
when it is connected to the power source
greatly increases risk of injury from accidental
startup. Always disconnect power BEFORE
doing any work on machine, including chang-
ing blades or other tooling.
Safety Instructions
14. JOINTER KICKBACK.
As with all jointers, this
machine may "kickback" the workpiece, which
means throwing it from the jointer with force.
Kickbacks cause injuries from the blow of the
thrown workpiece or by pulling the operator's
hands into the moving cutterhead.
To minimize the risk of kickback:
a.
Make sure the outfeed table is even with
the cutterhead knives at their highest
point of rotation.
b.
Use push blocks whenever possible to
protect hands.
c.
Do not stand or allow others to stand at
the end of the infeed table during opera-
tion.
d.
Do not exceed the maximum cutting
depth of
1
⁄
8
" for your jointer.
e.
Only joint clean, dry, natural wood stock.
15. WORKPIECE SUPPORT.
Jointing a workpiece
that is too small or that is unstable may result
in a kickback or cutterhead contact. Only joint
stable workpieces that are longer than 8" and
thicker than
1
⁄
4
".
16. STOCK SELECTION.
Only joint clean, dry
natural wood stock. Stock with the following
characteristics may increase the risk of kick-
back, personal injury, or machine damage:
• Large or loose knots, embedded stones,
nails, or staples.
• Wet or green stock.
• Synthetic wood products other than natu-
ral wood (plywood, MDF, OSB, etc.).
17. SAFE KNIFE PROJECTION.
Knives that proj-
ect more than 0.125" from the cutterhead
may become loose or damaged during opera-
tion. Always make sure knives are properly set
and well tightened in the cutterhead.
18. DIFFICULT OPERATIONS.
If you are expe-
riencing difficulties performing the intend-
ed operation, stop! Contact our Technical
Support Staff or ask a qualified expert how
the operation should be performed.
