Metadata Search Operators
On the
(page 5-9), search operators can be used to refine the search
criteria for a number of metadata fields. These operators are listed as options in drop-down
lists to the left of each field.
Operator
Description
Example
Substring
Finds content items with the specified
string anywhere in the metadata field.
This has the same effect as placing an
asterisk wildcard before and after the
search term. This is the most
commonly used operator and is the
default operator.
When form is typed in the Title field,
the search returns items with words
such as forms, performance, and reform
in their title.
Contains
Finds items with the specified whole
word or phrase in the metadata field.
No wildcard is placed before or after
the specified value.
When form is typed in the Title field,
the search returns items with the word
form in their title, but does not return
items with the words performance or
reform.
Note:
(page 5-14) can be used with the Contains operator. For example,
typing form?? in the Title field and selecting Contains finds items with the words formed,
former, and formal in their title.
Note: The Contains operator is used with only the Verity and Tamino search engines. It is not
available if your system administrator has configured the content server to use the database for
indexing and searching.
Matches
Finds items with the exact specified
value in the metadata field.
When address change form is typed in
the Title field, the search returns items
with the exact title of Address Change
Form.
Starts
Finds items with the specified value
at the beginning of the metadata field.
This has the same effect as placing an
asterisk wildcard after the search
term.
When form is typed in the Title field,
the search returns all items with titles
that begin with the word form, including
forms, forming, etc.
