De-icing the evaporator
NOTE
Gas cools significantly upon evaporation. If
the evaporator is not warmed sufficiently by
the coolant circulation in the engine, it may ice
over. The gas supply can be interrupted if the
evaporator ices over. This causes the engine
to come to a halt.
– Open the bonnet; see
= "Motorhaube_oeffnen" not found!
– Check to see whether the evaporator has
iced over.
If the evaporator has iced over:
– Disconnect the connection assembly (1).
The gas shut-off valve is closed. The gas flow
to the evaporator is blocked.
– Try to start the engine again.
If the engine starts, leave it running until it
stalls again due to the lack of gas. This will
discharge any gas still in the evaporator.
CAUTION
Risk of damage to components!
If the engine is prematurely turned off via the key
switch, residue gas may remain in the evaporator.
Undercooled gas left in the evaporator expands
upon heating. This can lead to excessive overpres-
sure in the evaporator and can cause component
damage.
– If the evaporate ices over, do not switch off the
engine using the key switch.
– First of all, allow the engine to stall due to the lack
of gas.
– Make sure that the engine has stopped.
– Once the engine has stopped, switch off the key
switch.
– Switch off the key switch.
