The wear of bronze fabric brushes (106) depends on
many influencing factors, so that specification of a ref-
erence value is not possible. To minimise the wear and
tear, the following points should be checked:
1. Check the radial displacement of the slip ring (4) in
mounted condition, see section 6.3.2.
2. Check the oscillating behaviour.
3. Check the brush pressure.
4. Check the slip ring surface.

The spark-type brush holders for wet operation are
composed of a housing and an axially mobile brass
sleeve into which the bronze fabric has been incorpora-
ted. The sleeve and fabric are both in contact with the
slip ring, they thus wear down at the same time.
To control the maximum permissible wear limit, three
bores have been arranged above each other. The mid-
dle of the laterally offset bores indicates the wear limit.
If the brass sleeve is worn up until this bore, the bronze
fabric brushes have to be replaced during the next
maintenance work. The complete spark-type brush
holder must be dismantled and remounted with the new
bronze fabric brushes.

1. Check the slip ring or slip rings (4) for scoring.
NOTE
Whenever replacing the slip rings, new car-
bon brushes have to be inserted.
