MOUNTING AND CONNECTING A FLASH UNIT
The SUBAL ND7000 is equipped with 2 glass ports to connect Sea&Sea fiber optic cables. Adapters
for other systems (e. g. INON) are available as accessories.
Modern strobes with STTL function provide full TTL control!
Optionally a built in flash electronic with up to max. 3 strobe sockets is available. This can be
upgraded by your local dealer.
A wide range of perfected strobearms are available for the combination of a SUBAL ND7000 housing
with SUBAL flash housings and strobes of many manufacturers.
The arms are fastened by pushing them onto an adapter plate on the upper part of the housing. The
swivel arm is secured by screwing the footscrew into the center indentation of the adapter plate. For
„handheld„ flash operation (point shooting), the screw needs only to be unscrewed a little and the flash
unit removed unfortunately easy and quickly and can be freely guided.
For other flash arms (eg. Nikonos, Sea & Sea etc.) adapters are available which allow the mounting of
the corresponding swivel arms by use of trays (please see accessories).
When inserting the flash unit plug, please take care:
The socket must be free of dirt, sand and moisture. The plug O-ring, too, has to be checked carefully
for cleanliness and should be lightly greased. Note the position of the index nose and groove and push
the plug into the socket without using force, to avoid damage to the contact pins. The plug should be
pushed in a few millimeters into the socket by hand and only then the knurled screw screwed into the
socket and slightly tightened.
In order to guarantee proper flash control, the contacts should be carefully protected from oxidation.
When removing the flash unit from the camera housing, proceed as follows:
While removing the knurled screw, hold the equipment in such a way that the socket and plug point
downwards. This allows the water which is in front of the O-ring to drip off. Then pull the plug out
slowly, so that the suction effect is as light as possible and no water gets into the contacts. If water has
penetrated, it has to be removed by blowing it out and drying. Contact preparations (sprays) are
recommended from time to time.
SUBAL TTL-cables have a triple sealed, Nikonos-compatible plug, which prevents water penetrating
into the thread of the socket.
