Front Control Panel and
Functions
Figure 3-9
The following section will provide information on the use
of available functions for the front control panel. It will
also provide instructions and information on navigating
the control panel monitor.
ENGINE SPEED Rotary Dial
• The ENGINE SPEED rotary dial (1) is a rotary
control with hard stops. The engine speed is at idle
when the speed dial is between 0 and 10%.
• When the ENGINE SPEED rotary dial is turned to
10% or greater, the engine speed revolutions per
minute (RPM) will increase up to the speed dial
setting.
• Turning the ENGINE SPEED rotary dial to less than
10% will reduce engine RPM to idle.
• The engine speed can be controlled by either the
ENGINE SPEED rotary dial or the VAC INCR/DECR
switch on any remote pendant. The system will obey
the most recent command input.
• The speed of the vacuum pump is controlled by
changing the RPM of the engine. The vacuum pump
speed is monitored through a magnetic speed
sensor.
• Overspeed protection prevents the vacuum pump
from turning faster than the maximum rated factory
setting.
• Engine speed must be 1100 RPM or greater for
vacuuming and high-flow water pump operation. High
demand vacuuming and water pump operation will
require maximum engine speed. The engine speed
will automatically increase as water pressure is
increased.
WATER PRESSURE Rotary Dial
Water pressure can be controlled by the WATER
PRESSURE rotary dial (2) on the front panel or the
WATER PRESSURE rocker switch on the curbside panel
or the WATER INCR/WATER DECR buttons on the
pendants.
The computer will obey the most recent command input.
The water pump is turned off when the speed dial is
turned to less than 10%.
If the water pressure dial is already set to a value greater
than 10% when the truck enters work mode, the control
system will ignore the speed dial setting until the setting
is turned back to less than 10% or until the water pump
switch on the curbside panel is pressed to decrease
pressure.
When the speed dial is turned to 10% or greater, the
following will happen:
1.
The water pressure speed dial will affect engine RPM
– 1200 RPM minimum.
2.
The operator will increase the engine RPM via the
engine speed dial when necessary.
When increased to over 70% of total water pressure, the
engine will increase to 95% of maximum RPM. The
control system will obey the greater of the two settings.
The engine speed dial must be used to reach maximum
RPM.
Water Pressure
Water pressure will be shown on the front control panel
display screen (4). Water pressure is displayed in pounds
per square inch (PSI). Alternate water pressure units are
user-selectable by accessing the Options menu.
Emergency STOP Switch
If the emergency STOP switch (3) is actuated by either
the front or curbside panel switch, the following will occur:
1.
The vent door will open.
2.
All functions will be turned off (boom, water, hose
reel, etc.)
3.
The engine will be brought down to idle.
