Chapter 4: Chassis Setup and Maintenance
Installing the Motherboard
Installing the Motherboard into the Chassis
1. Review the documentation that came with your motherboard. Become familiar with
component placement, requirements, and precautions.
2. Power down the system, disconnect the power cords from the power supplies, lay the
chassis on a flat surface and open the chassis cover.
3. Compare the holes in the motherboard to those in the chassis, then add or remove
standoffs as needed. To do this:
A. Place a hexagonal standoff screw through the bottom the chassis.
B. Secure the screw with the hexagon nut (rounded side down).
4.
Lay the motherboard on the chassis aligning the permanent and optional standoffs.
5. Secure the motherboard to the chassis using the rounded, Phillips head screws. Do not
exceed more than eight pounds of torque per square inch when tightening down the
motherboard.
6. Secure the CPU(s), heatsinks, and other components to the motherboard, chassis, and/
or backplane as needed.
