5-6 Installing Expansion Cards
For the LP models, such as SC825MTQ-R700LPB, the chassis slots are vertical
and allow the addition of low profile expansion cards. The U models, such as
SC825MTQ-R700UB, allow a Supermicro universal I/O (UIO) card in addition toW
expansion cards. The slots are horizontal.
The motherboard must be installed before expansion cards.
Expansion Cards for an LP Model Chassis
The SC825MTQ-R700LPB chassis includes seven slots for expansion cards.
Installing an Expansion Card for an LP Model Chassis
1. Power down the system and remove the power cord from the back of the
power supply module as described in Section 5-2. Remove the chassis cover
as described in Section 5-3.
2. In the rear of the chassis, remove the blank PCI shield that is pre-installed cov-
ering the expansion slot by removing the screw securing the shield, then lifting
the cover out of the PCI slot.

3. Slide the expansion card into the expansion slot on the motherboard while align-
ing it with the chassis slot in the rear of the chassis.
4. Secure the expansion card onto the PCI slot with the screw previously removed.
Expansion Cards for a U Model Chassis
The U model chassis, such as SC825MTQ-R700UB, accomodates expansion
cards using riser cards. If your motherboard supports a Supermicro universal I/O
(UIO) card, the chassis supports an additional three full-height expansion cards
and three low profile expansion cards. If the motherboard does not support a UIO,
then the chassis supports four full-height expansion cards and three low profile
expansion cards.
